Trivia

A Chameleon is a lizard known for its colour-shifting abilities. That's a perfect name for a tool replacing surface textures!

Some Unvanquished contributors have the habit to name some of their tools after animal names, like Chameleon, Sloth, Mantis, Urcheon and Esquirel!

Status

The tool has been used to retexture maps from the Unvanquished game and is commonly used to retexture old maps when porting them from Tremulous.

The tool is under development by Viech.

Features

Chameleon's main task is replacing a number of textures inside a .map file while applying scale factors and rotation to all affected surfaces.

Chamelon allows you to:

  • Replace old-fashioned textures with high resolution ones without loosing the alignment
  • Choose the target shader/texture from a cached database
  • Create and export replacement rulesets for later use
